Welcome to the little space where I do most of my creating, from watercolor to hand-lettering to ceramics. I think it’s important to have a space dedicated to creativity with all your tools handy making it easy to get right to work. This space isn’t glamorous but it’s one of my favorite spots to spend time. I love that I can leave a mess and come back to it later.
This space usually doesn’t look this tidy but we just did a major purge which gave me a chance to only keep the things on hand I use most often. This area has changed as my business has changed. In 2008, when I started Aedriel Originals, the space was used more for my ceramics with lots of clipboards for orders. You can see those photos here featured in Etzcetera Magazine.
The hubs spray painted the pegboard where I keep the things I use most often as well as crafty supplies like wrapping paper and ribbon. I designed the workbench with a level for boxing shipments and a higher counter height level for working. The lower level happens to be an ideal height for the little one to sit at and color while I work. The counter height allows me to stand while I work. I’m not much of a sitter. Not shown are white photo boxes where I store extra supplies like paint and pens.
The chalkboard door is great for sketching out ideas and for the kiddos to color on. The swivel arm for the iPad is just a simple TV mount using the Wallee conversion piece and case for the iPad. The iPad just snaps right into the TV mount. This comes in very handy for long hours. Find a source list at the end of the post.
We have an air compressor on hand and all the supplies for the kiln in wire baskets. Glaze drips on the table and leftover blue tape from securing butcher paper down are signs of a well-used workbench. One lonely Craigslist find kiln is all we’re down to but it’s all in an effort to scale back.
This is truly the only space in the house that’s dedicated to creating. Much of my design work starts here with final steps being done on the computer at our desk. Find the source list below!
