When we were first considering purchasing our home, we were attracted to the potential hidden behind choppy rooms and ornate details that weren’t really in keeping with the architecture of the home. We had our heart set on a specific area which meant it took nearly three years to find ‘that’ home where the second you walk in, you just know it’s the one. We’re definitely fans of less is more at home and we knew this home would give us just that. It was large enough for our family and with the a few changes, would become a better fit for how we live. One of the first things we did was remove a load bearing wall separating the then great room and the formal living and dining rooms. This was the game changer for the home allowing the whole back of the house to be one expanse of windows and doors. Get a little peek here of that process.
The world feels so busy sometimes, doesn’t it? We wanted our home to be a place of respite and calm. We can’t spend every day at the spa (wouldn’t that be nice?) but why not turn on the Spa Radio channel on iTunes and diffuse some oils. Calm for the win! Choosing a neutral color palette offers the option to add touches of color anytime.

Here’s a sense of what our home looked like when it was for sale. Not so much less is more at home. The blue wall was the first thing we ripped out and geez it felt right. Though the images appear like these rooms all offer plenty of space (those realtors know how to get the widest angle of every room!), we didn’t feel like we would use the formal living and dining space. When deciding on whether to tear the infamous blue wall down, I took to heart a comment my good friend made when she would come over. She said “I feel like I just want to hurry past the formal living and dining room when I walk in the door to get to the kitchen area because that’s where the fun is!”…so true! Up next on the agenda is the kitchen. While it’s actually a beautiful kitchen, it’s just not our taste and we want to completely reconfigure the footprint of the space. Stay tuned!
